Types of Tile
One option you may be considering for your home is tile. With the unlimited design possibilities, tiles can be used in a variety of places for your home. Given how durable your tile surfaces can be, they will last a long time as well.
When looking into tile for your home, there are a variety of different kinds of tiles to consider. Two of the more frequently used tile types are ceramic and porcelain.
Made from a mixture of clay, sand, and other natural materials, ceramic tiles are shaped and then baked at a high temperature. The baking process ensures that the ceramic tile will be a durable surface.
The hardened ceramic tile can either be glazed or left untreated. When tiles are glazed they can be given rich color and extra protection against deterioration. The process of glazing a ceramic tile also determines how effective it will be against deterioration. The glaze level on a tile is dependent on where it is placed.
All porcelain tiles are ceramic, but not all ceramic tiles are porcelain. Porcelain tiles have the added feature of having a water absorption rate of less than 0.5%. This makes them capable of being placed both indoors and outdoors.
Finer types of clay make up porcelain tiles, along with quartz and feldspar. They are also produced at a much higher temperature than standard ceramic tile. This helps with making the product more water resistant.
